Backing up Entourage data is no harder then backing up the Microsoft User Data folder in your docs folder.
There is a mechanism built in to Entourage that will allow for backups in what 2 or three files? Have you looked at the structure of the Mail folder when you use multiple email accounts? It is way more convoluted and distracting then Entourages db method. I have been using Entourage since the first version, and my database fie has gone from one to the next for the past several years with zero corruption or problems, not to mention from Computer to Computer and DVD back ups, etc.Īlso the point on backing up database files is a joke. If it is in a database format, there are error checks and tools in place to prevent or fix this. I don't see how file corruption can be considered high. Another drawback to its email database is that it's more difficult to back up and restore, and it isn't efficient to backup with Time Machine or any other file backup system. The idea of using a database is apparently to provide better performance, but this does not seem to have the intended result in Entourage. Since Entourage constantly writes to the database file, the chances of its being corrupted are high, and seemingly connected to the amount and critical nature of emails stored in it. With individual files, a file corruption might only affect one file. The frustrating problem with this is that in the event of a file corruption, the entire email store is lost.
